Sunderland Select Board taps a three-person team to mediate a greenhouse noise complaint during a budget workshop with the Finance Committee. Library Director Katherine requested $6,846 more in support wages to keep sensory-friendly Thursday hours running past an expiring grant, plus $18,500 in capital funds for HVAC repairs. Fire Chief Benjamin, called Steve throughout the meeting, said the department is moving to PFAS-free turnout gear at roughly $5,500 a set and reviewing the $17-an-hour firefighter wage.
Town Administrator Becky told Finance Committee member Joe that this year's higher tax bills reflect a correction of last year's miscalculated rate plus the normal 2.5 percent increase. Officials said health insurance costs will rise 8.5 percent, far below an earlier 15 percent projection. The board also held off renewing assessor Roy Bishop's contract pending a rate review, and authorized board member Crystal and Building Commissioner Tom Quinlan to informally mediate a noise complaint against Atlas Farm's three greenhouses.
