Select Board shelves plan for EV chargers
Sunderland Select Board shelves a no-cost EV charger offer, citing weak demand and fast-changing tech.
Select Board · Meeting of February 2, 2026
Sunderland Select Board shelves a no-cost EV charger offer, citing weak demand and fast-changing tech. The Energy Committee pitched a free five-year installation deal from East Coast Renewable Energy, covering up to $50,000 in level-two charger costs on town land, but members and the board agreed current usage doesn't justify locking in equipment that could be obsolete once level-three "superchargers" become eligible. Board members voted 3-0 to appoint Lauren Starr as project manager for the Graves Memorial Library renovation and 3-0 to approve the March 2 caucus warrant.
A separate update warned that community choice aggregation rates could rise roughly a penny per kilowatt hour after a winter cold snap pushed grid reserve costs well above forecast, with Colonial Power Group flagging a possible increase from six to nine mils. The board closed by entering executive session on the town's Dollar General lawsuit, Colleto Development Group LLC v. Town of Sunderland.
